Today, digital security is a matter of national resilience, and everyone shares responsibility for cybersecurity – government agencies, the private sector, expert communities, and civil society alike. Women are playing an increasingly important role in this, especially in the context of war, as they find their place in professions traditionally considered "male."
This was emphasized by Oleksandr Potii, Chairman of the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine, at the Cyber Innovations and Resilience: Women4Cyber Talks event in Kyiv.
He noted that over 20% of the Service's staff are women in military and civilian positions, providing special communications, information protection, broadcasting television and radio, and countering Russian hackers in cyberspace. Furthermore, women hold one in every four leadership positions within the SSSCIP.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Computer Emergency Response Team of Ukraine (CERT-UA) was headed by a woman. This is an example of how competence, knowledge, and determination have no gender boundaries.
Oleksandr Potii also highlighted the priority areas of the State Service of Special Communications' work, emphasizing expanding opportunities for women in cybersecurity through improving the quality of specialized education and providing equal access to career advancement. He also stressed strengthening the state's cyber resilience by implementing modern technologies and international standards, developing robust infrastructure, and establishing a system for training professionals.
"Cyber challenges demand not only technological solutions but also the engagement of the best talent, regardless of gender. We must create conditions in which women, veterans, and young professionals can unlock their potential in the field of cybersecurity. Only together can we build a strong, secure, and innovative digital world," Oleksandr Potii underscored.
Cyber Innovations and Resilience: Women4Cyber Talks brought together over 100 experts in the cybersecurity field. They discussed the challenges and prospects of a secure digital future.
